DNS Server Not Responding is a common issue for Windows users. It happens with all the Windows users that it is Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7 users. You see this error when you try to connect to a website on your Browser or Any Software try to fetch data from the Internet. So, When you launch troubleshooter program in Windows you see this message “Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding“.
The Windows Troubleshooter program will show you an error like bellow Image.
What Is DNS (Domain Name Server)?
When you type a domain name in your Browser or your machine makes any request to a Webpage then the request is sent to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Now, Your ISP views the DNS name associated with the domain name. After finding correct DNS record, Your ISP’s server convert the DNS data to IP address and direct you to the correct server of that domain.
For example when you enter www.facebook.com your ISP direct you to Facebooks’s IP address, in this case IP of Facebook is 126.96.36.199
How To Fix DNS Server Not Responding Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
This guide will work for all the operating system that is for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 so follow this guide you are using any of the listed OS. There is a simple solution for this by using other DNS servers like Open DNS or Google DNS. In most cases, this helps to solve the problem because your request will now go to other DNS servers.
Step 1: Go to the Control Panel in order to solve DNS Server Not Responding error.
Ste 2: Now, Go to Network and Internet → Network and Sharing Center. On the sidebar click on Change Adapter settings.
Step 3: Right click on the Network connection you are using. If you are using WiFi then right click on WiFi adapter and if you are using Broadband then right click on it. After Right click choose Properties option.
Step 4: Now Double click on double click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).
Step 5: Now, Choose “Use the Following DNS server addresses“.
Step 6: Fill the bellow given details. I am giving you to details 1 of Open DNS and 2 of Google DNS. Both are good check which one is working well for you.
- Open DNS Settings.
Preferred DNS Server = 188.8.131.52
Alternate DNS Server = 184.108.40.206
- Google DNS Settings.
Preferred DNS Server = 220.127.116.11
Alternate DNS Server = 18.104.22.168
Step 7: Now, Mark on Validate Settings and click on OK button.
In most cases, this will solve your problem but if you are still facing this (dns server not responding) issue then try any other DNS server. Make sure to restart your PC before trying any other DNS service. You can comment here if this article failed to solve your issue.
